Their lives are filled with adventure, DIY, crafts and building, but also saving the day. They rise to the challenge and are always totally committed. Aside from the inherent risks they face professionally, these everyday heroes open themselves up to other dangers away from their jobs, which should not be underestimated. That they remain relaxed and focused as they achieve excellent results is down to their exceptional equipment. They place their trust in uvex safety products. Our real life stories allow others to share personal experiences with their favourite uvex products.
Like many others, our colleague Manfred F. from Gedern enjoys being active and keeping fit. He has run marathons in the past, which were great experiences, but has now focused his energy on a very special activity in his spare time. For the first time, Manfred took part in the Tough Mudder race in Hesse on 10 August 2014. Tough Mudder is a team challenge in which participants must complete an 18 km obstacle course through mud and grease. They must swim and dive through ice water, crawl through an electrically charged field of mud, scale walls slicked with butter and mud, run up a greased up quarter pipe and much more. We interviewed Manfred to find out more about how he mastered this extreme endurance event:
uvex: Could you please briefly describe the hobby/leisure activity in which you use uvex personal protective equipment.
MF: I have loved sports for as long as I can remember and I regularly take part in long-distance runs and marathons. At one point I just fancied a new challenge, something more demanding but still fun. A friend told me about the Tough Mudder race. My first thought was that it is absolutely crazy, but it is totally right for me!
uvex: Which dangers and challenges do you encounter?
MF: Of course, it is not entirely without risk because you are crawling through mud, climbing up wooden walls and traversing up and along ropes. Dealing with jagged rocks, wooden stakes and branches, sharp edges and all manner of slippery obstacles is all part of the fun.
uvex: How are you protected when engaging in your hobby?
MF: I wear safety gloves that fulfil a range of functions, such as providing excellent grip and protecting me from the dangers mentioned above. I also know from the areas of application for these gloves in industry that they offer extremely good slip-resistance in oily environments. Now I have put them to the test in mud as well and they passed with flying colours. ?
uvex: Which uvex products do you wear for protection?
uvex: Has using uvex products changed the way you practice your hobby/leisure activity?
MF: The exceptional wearer properties of this product really helped me succeed in this extreme challenge. Without these gloves, I think I would have had considerable problems conquering the course, not to mention the injuries my hands would have sustained.
Many thanks to Manfred F. for the open interview! We think it’s great that you were involved in such a daring competition and wish you all the best for your sporting future!
