Best of the Best: uvex 1 x-craft wins Red Dot Award

A resounding success for the PPE manufacturing company uvex safety: the uvex 1 x-craft safety shoe product family has been awarded the top prize in the Red Dot Design Award 2024, the “Red Dot: Best of the Best” – a title that the organisers of the design competition reserve for “trailblazing designs”. “Only the best products in a category receive this prize”, according to Red Dot.

The safety shoes in the uvex 1 x-craft product range don’t just protect their wearers during a wide range of activities, but also offer complete flexibility. What’s more, the design of the shoes combines durability with ergonomics and sustainability. This makes the uvex 1 x-craft the perfect safety shoe for people who work in industry or trade, or for anyone who needs to be able to move around with complete freedom.

The uvex 1 x-craft pro is the range’s premium model. The integrated flex zone in the forefoot area offers maximum flexibility and benefits anyone who works in a kneeling or squatting position, with the functional sole design providing reliable comfort. Another interesting feature is the design of the abrasion-resistant TPU outsole, which is made with ten per cent recycled material. Here, uvex again uses the proven uvex bionom x principle, which combines the key biomechanical functions of the body with that of the footwear to create a harmonious symbiosis of person and PPE. The midsole is made of 15 per cent recycled granulate from in-house production residues and also incorporates uvex i-PUREnrj planet technology, which offers optimal energy recovery for wearers.

The range has been extended to include additional models in the tried-and-tested micro velour outer shoe material for industry-specific challenges. Colour accents in blue and red clearly distinguish the models for applications in industry, construction and logistics. The flexibility and low weight of the safety shoe ensure optimum ergonomics and the necessary protection for work in the manufacturing industry, while the red models with textile penetration resistance provide additional safety on construction sites and in warehouses. The uvex 1 x-craft is available in each colourway as a perforated shoe, closed low shoe and boot. These models also contain sustainable components, with the recycled uvex i-PUREnrj planet midsole material used in all the series’ models.

The uvex 1 x-craft planet takes sustainability to the next level. It’s the perfect combination of the innovations of the uvex 1 x-craft product family and sustainable materials: the midsole and outsole contain up to 15 per cent regranulate, while the upper is made of recycled and bio-based materials such as PET bottles and bamboo. It contains a total of 30 per cent recycled material in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14021:2016 and is available in the S1PL safety class.

The uvex 1 x-craft product family has a high-tech, sporty appearance that pays tribute to current trends. That’s key, because for younger workers in particular, the design of PPE is becoming increasingly important. The jury have confirmed uvex’s power of innovation with their decision, saying “The uvex 1 x-craft is a thoroughly well-designed and cleverly thought-through shoe. The way the different, partly recycled materials have been put together and handled is impressive across the board. In particular, the shoe isn’t just hardwearing, it also looks sporty and stylish. So stylish, in fact, that you’d even want to wear it outside work.”
