uvex lone worker protection — the smart system for individual protection of lone workers
Anyone who works out of sight and earshot of other people is considered to be working alone and is therefore exposed to a particular level of risk: Accidents, falls, attacks by third parties and similar incidents may not be noticed until too late.
To ensure that lone workers can get help quickly in these cases, we have developed the uvex lone worker protection system: Lone workers can be equipped with various, individually configurable devices and tools that allow emergency signals to be transmitted manually or automatically and received directly by a 24/7 emergency call centre. Our web-based SOS portal supports the subsequent rescue operation with a pre-defined emergency plan.

uvex lone worker protection system
The uvex lone worker products in detail
Depending on the requirements of individuals working alone, uvex lone worker protection offers various devices that allow emergency signals to be transmitted manually or automatically. Find the right hardware for your lone workers here:
Smart insock: uvex smart sole
If the smart sole is in an angled position for several seconds, for example if there is no movement after a fall, an alarm is transmitted to the control centre. Before the alarm is triggered, the smart sole vibrates to indicate that an alarm is imminent. To avoid a false alarm, the alarm can be easily interrupted by moving your feet.
In addition to the automatic alarm function, the smart sole also offers the option to deliberately trigger an alarm: To do this, simply tap your heels together three times. This function is suitable for hazardous situations in which lone workers are still conscious and able to act.
The microperforated sole ensures optimal air circulation and is ESD capable. The electronics are embedded in epoxy resin to protect the mobile radio and sensor components so that the smart sole functions reliably even under extreme conditions. Combined with uvex shoes, it meets the PPE certificationrequirements.
To ensure that the person who is injured or in danger can be found quickly, the smart sole offers a GPS locator option for outdoor areas. Our optional Bluetooth beacons provide support for location finding in indoor areas. Our optional Bluetooth beacons are required for location finding in indoor areas.
The smart sole features an integrated eSIM that enables independent LTE-M mobile radio connection, allowing it to be used without any additional devices.
Put the smart sole in your shoes — done. No installation or additional equipment is needed to use the smart insock. The insock is charged wirelessly, and switch-on and standby mode are controlled automatically.
Mobile emergency signal device: uvex pager
The pager is compliant with DGUV (Rule 112–139) and tested for health and safety protection in work environments.
If the pager is in an abnormal work position for several seconds, for example if there is no movement, an alarm is transmitted to the control centre. Before the alarm is triggered, the pager emits an acoustic pre-alarm (95 dB-A). To avoid a false alarm, transmission of the emergency signal can be easily prevented at this point by pressing a button.
In addition to the automatic alarm function, an alarm (95 dB-A) can be actively triggered by pressing the red alarm button in the event of a hazardous situation.
To ensure that the person who is injured or in danger can be found quickly, the pager offers a GPS locator option for outdoor areas. Our optional Bluetooth beacons are required for location finding in indoor areas.
The pager features an integrated eSIM card, allowing it to be used without any additional devices. Thanks to the remote lifecheck function, the pager is also suitable for use in areas with little or no mobile network reception.
No complicated installation or additional equipment is needed to use the pager. The compact pager can simply be worn on the body of the lone worker, for example on their belt, making it comfortable to wear. In addition, the pager has an IP67 protection rating and is therefore rugged, dust-tight and waterproof. Its simple operation means that a single device can be easily shared between several lone workers, for example across shifts.
A large matching charging station, a high-quality leather belt pouch and a practical belt clip are available separately.
uvex SOS mobile app
No special hardware is needed to use the app. The app is available free of charge via the Play or App Store and can be installed on all smartphones with an Android or IOS operating system. The smartphone can simply be worn on the body of the lone worker and can be used as normal. This makes the solution comfortable to wear in a way that the worker is already be used to.
When used on a special industrial or rugged phone (red emergency button), the app is certified in accordance with DGUV (Rule 112–139).
If the smartphone is in an abnormal work position for several seconds, for example if there is no movement, an alarm is transmitted to the control centre. Before the alarm is triggered, the smartphone emits an acoustic pre-alarm to indicate that an alarm is imminent. To avoid a false alarm, the alarm can be cancelled by pressing a button.
In addition to the automatic alarm function, an alarm can be actively triggered by pressing a button in the app or the emergency button on the smartphone (rugged phone) in the event of a hazardous situation.
To ensure that the person who is injured or in danger can be found quickly in an emergency, a GPS locator option is available for outdoor areas. For indoor areas, Bluetooth beacons are used for location finding in the event of an alarm. This saves valuable time when initiating rescue operations.
The smartphones on which the app is installed can be used for other applications, such as telephone calls and emails. By installing the uvex SOS mobile app, existing end devices are transformed into tools for protecting lone workers within just a few minutes.
Optional indoor location finding: uvex SOS beacons
If, for safety purposes, you need to be able to locate lone workers in indoor areas too (indoor location finding), you will need our optional Bluetooth beacons. The Bluetooth beacons are attached at strategic points in the building and marked on a site plan. Our partner Fürst installs and configures the Bluetooth beacons at cost.
- Bluetooth connection to all lone-worker devices
- Battery or mains operation
- Explosion protected
In addition, our service package offers a control centre that is staffed 24/7 — by both technical and general staff. It handles alarm and device management and carries out reporting. If you use Bluetooth beacons, the control centre also covers the indoor location finding service in the event of an alarm. In addition, it handles support requests and remote maintenance (such as reminders to change the batteries of Bluetooth beacons). On-site maintenance is billed at cost.

How does uvex lone worker protection work?
Select suitable hardware
Choose a personal emergency signal device. The Pager and the uvex smart sole are delivered with an M2M SIM card as standard, the cost of which is included in the basic service package. Alternatively, you can purchase a special PESD smartphone (available directly from the manufacturer), which we can then integrate into our SOS platform. If you don't want to purchase an extra device, you can also use the uvex SOS mobile app to turn your standard smartphone into your personal emergency signal device.
